Vehicle Emission Testing Technology

Since the 1970, there have been many data collection methods for vehicle exhaust emissions, including chassis dynamometer test method, outdoor remote sensing detection method, vehicle exhaust monitoring method and so on.

(1)The chassis dynamometer test method is the traditional vehicle exhaust monitoring method. Its working principle is to use chassis dynamometer and gas analyzer for sale to measure the accurate exhaust emission under the preset driving conditions of motor vehicles. Its advantages are low cost and easy to use. It is widely used in automobile maintenance industry and automobile monitoring line station. It is also the main source of vehicle exhaust data acquisition at present. The disadvantage is that the test must be carried out under fixed driving conditions, which can not truly reflect the real-time road exhaust emissions. This method can not meet the needs of exhaust gas detection now and in the future.

(2)After 1990, remote sensing technology, a relatively advanced vehicle exhaust monitoring technology, began to be applied in the United States and other countries and regions. Its working principle is to use infrared and ultraviolet spectroscopy technology to test the mixing ratio of each component in the exhaust emissions. Its advantage is that it can complete fixed-point monitoring in the normal driving process of the vehicle, with high automation and fast detection speed. It has a special role in strengthening the relevant regulations on exhaust emissions. The disadvantage of this method is that it has strict requirements on traffic condition and location, and it can measure the concentration of emission gas, so it can not be widely used.

(3)Real-time vehicle exhaust detection method appeared around 2000. Its working principle is based on portable exhaust detection technology, and real-time measurement of exhaust and driving characteristics of exciting vehicles. Its advantage is that it can simulate real-time road conditions, and can quickly obtain exhaust emission data of different sections, different types of vehicles and different periods. On the premise of ensuring the accuracy and reliability of detection, it can also save a lot of time and samples.

But because of the early implementation of European emission laws, their testing equipment and technology are very advanced. In 2000, Imperial College of Technology studied the remote voc monitoring system of vehicle operation and emission status. Through the use of advanced data acquisition technology and vehicle positioning technology, the vehicle exhaust emission is monitored remotely.

In 2001, the College of Engineering, University of Manchester, UK, conducted a study on remote monitoring of diesel engine exhaust. Through remote monitoring of automotive diesel exhaust, the emission of automotive pollutants in driving can be minimized. In 2003, the Commission on Sustainable Development of the European Communities (CSD) approved the installation of small-value measuring instruments at "road-side" gas stations and other places on driving vehicles to conduct real-time monitoring of vehicle exhaust. The study was carried out in Britain, Germany, Australia and other countries to achieve the goal of real-time emission monitoring of low-cost vehicles.
